THE CEDERBERG BACKYARD ULTRA
Welcome to the Cederberg Backyard Ultra - where endurance meets untamed wilderness.
More than just a race, this is a raw test of resilience, determination, and community. Each loop strips runners to their core, demanding strength of body and clarity of mind.
Framed by the rugged beauty of the Cederberg mountains, this event is designed with intention - from the start time to the season - to challenge every runner’s limits while honouring the spirit of backyard racing.
It’s not for the faint of heart, but for those drawn to the wild, it’s an unforgettable journey, one loop at a time.

race rules
An unconventional Backyard Ultra with a Cederberg twist.
Starting at midnight on Friday, runners complete a 7.8km loop with 400m of elevation every 90 minutes, continuing for 22.5 hours - a total of 15 loops.
If more than one runner remains at the start of the 16th loop, the format shifts to a final footrace: the first to cross the line wins.

Designed to honour the essence of backyard racing, this structure blends discipline with unpredictability - a challenge shaped by the Cederberg’s terrain, rhythm, and spirit.
